Pepeha Artwork

Image
As part of our Te Reo Maori, we have been looking at our own Pepeha's. We decided it would be cool to put our Pepeha into a Visual Art Context. Check out these stunning images. I can't wait to add more as we complete them over the next few weeks!

Instructional Writing - Magical Mazes

Image
We have started looking at instructional writing and being able to give our reader simple instructions to correctly carry out a set of tasks. We have decided to create a Magical Maze to do this. Our mission to to safely guide our character / reader through our magical maze. Easy? Well there are many obstacles and hazards we need to be aware of. Last week, we planned collaboratively in groups a list of hazards / obstacles, warnings and action verbs that will help us create our maze. Today's challenge was to create our very own Magical Maze. The children absolutely loved this task and it was a pleasure to listen to their conversations about the different hazards they had decided to include.

Breakers Session 2

Today in class focus was all about Goal Setting (very timely having just set our academic learning goals this week). Jordan talked to us about SMART Goals. S - Specific M - Measurable A - Achievable R - Realistic T - Time Bound We identified some goals we would like to achieve in the next two weeks and discussed if they were SMART goals. Then it was outside to the court to practice our skills. Dribbling was the focus today and playing Captain and Pirates was loads of fun (as well as skill improving). The relays were the highlight of today's session. The children developed a heap of skills and challenged themselves - including an Olympic torch like balancing act with 2 basketballs and a cone ;) and trying to balance two balls on each other!  Well done Ollie who managed this challenge!!! Check out the photos at the end of these challenges.

Team Oldham Values Assembly

Image
As a team, every fortnight we recognise children who have been displaying active learner qualities inside and outside the classroom (e.g. organised, focused, show time management skills, asks questions, takes responsibility for their learning, shares their valuable ideas in discussions). Each term we also focus on at least two important values. This term we are looking at how we can manage ourselves. This means we make sure we are organised for our learning, we know what to include in our learning tasks and ask questions to check we are on the right track and we complete our learning on time and to a high standard. Congratulations to the following students who have been awarded certificates for their positive attitudes towards learning in the past two weeks. Active Learner Award: Zachary  Self-Management: Jacob P & Marceline

Art - Collage Self-Portraits

Image
Our latest Art Challenge has been collage. We decided to use a side-profile for this task and then collage it with magazine clippings. It has been a really, fun, challenging and engaging activity for the children. Below are just some of the finished products - there are more to come very soon, and of course, you are always welcome to pop into the classroom and view them all.
